Royal Caribbean Price Drop After Booking

Your Royal Caribbean fare fell after you booked. How the Best Price Guarantee works before and after final payment, and how to ask for the difference.

You booked a Royal Caribbean cruise, checked the site a few weeks later and found the same cabin cheaper. Royal Caribbean will not tell you when that happens, and it will not adjust your booking on its own. The difference stays with the line unless you ask for it, and the Best Price Guarantee is how you ask.

This guide walks through what to do, in order, from the moment you spot the lower fare. The rules themselves, with every exclusion, are on the Royal Caribbean price protection page.

What the Best Price Guarantee covers

Royal Caribbean's published policy says that if you find a lower price for the same cruise, same date and same room type on its website or through its call center, it will match it. Three things follow from that sentence:

  • The lower fare has to be Royal Caribbean's own. A price on a third-party booking site or from another agency does not count.
  • It has to match your booking exactly. Same ship, same sail date, same cabin type. A cheaper balcony on a different week is a different cruise.
  • It is not available everywhere. Royal Caribbean says the program is not available in all countries or for all reservations, and asks you to confirm your booking's eligibility with your cruise representative or travel partner.

Before final payment: reprice and get the difference

You can request a price match any time before your final payment, or within 24 hours of booking. If the same cabin class is now cheaper, Royal Caribbean adjusts your fare. If you have already paid in full, it refunds the difference. If you have not, your remaining balance goes down.

This is the window that pays in money, so the date matters. Royal Caribbean's FAQ puts final payment at 75 days before sailing for 1 to 4 night cruises, 90 days for 5 to 14 nights and 120 days for 15 nights or longer. Your own date is on your booking confirmation. Our guide to the cruise final payment date covers why it is the deadline that decides most claims.

After final payment: ask about an upgrade

Once final payment has passed and you booked more than 24 hours ago, the policy no longer describes a refund. What it does describe is an upgrade: if a higher cabin class is available for a lower price than what you paid, you may be eligible for a free room upgrade instead, based on availability.

That makes a Royal Caribbean price drop after final payment worth checking one level up. If your oceanview fell, look at what the balcony on the same sailing costs now. If it is now below what you paid, you have something to ask for. Availability decides it, so ask as soon as you see it. The wider picture across lines is in cruise price drop after final payment.

How to claim, step by step

  1. Find your booking details. Reservation number, ship, sail date, cabin category code and number of guests, all from your confirmation.
  2. Price the same booking on royalcaribbean.com. Same ship, date, category and guest count. Take a screenshot showing the fare and the date you saw it.
  3. Check the date against final payment. Before it, you are asking for a price adjustment. After it, you are asking about an upgrade.
  4. Submit the request. Royal Caribbean says to contact your travel partner to submit a price-match request, or chat with Royal Caribbean. If a travel agent made the booking, go through the agent; our travel agent price drop guide explains why.
  5. Keep the confirmation. Note the name of whoever handled it and check your updated invoice or balance afterwards.

What will not qualify

Most rejected requests fail on the match, not the policy. A fare for a different room type, a rate you are not eligible for, or a price you saw somewhere other than Royal Caribbean's own website or call center will not be matched. Promotions carry their own terms, which Royal Caribbean links from the policy page, so a lower fare that comes with a different promotion may change what your booking includes.

The full list of what Royal Caribbean excludes is on the price protection page. Whether a request is approved is always Royal Caribbean's decision.

How often this comes up

Royal Caribbean fares move a lot after booking, and some fall well below the first price. We publish how often and by how much on the Royal Caribbean price data page, measured on the fares we track rather than estimated.

The hard part is noticing. A booking made a year out needs checking for a year, on one specific cabin category. Royal Caribbean price drop alerts from CruiseSignal, an iPhone and web app for US and Canada residents, watch the exact sailing and category you booked and tell you the amount and your deadline when the fare falls, so you can ask for the difference while it is still claimable. CruiseSignal is independent and not affiliated with Royal Caribbean.
