If a travel agent holds your booking, the cruise line will not take a price protection request directly from you. That is not the agent being protective. It is how the lines structure agent-held reservations: the agent is the party of record, and the claim has to come from them.
This surprises people who find a lower fare themselves and call the line expecting to sort it out in five minutes.
What this changes, and what it does not
It does not change whether you are entitled to anything. The same program, the same deadline and the same exclusions apply to an agent-held booking as to one you made yourself.
What changes is the route. You find the drop, your agent files it, and the remedy lands on your booking. Adding a step also adds a delay, which matters because the fare you are claiming against has to still be publicly available when the line reviews the request.
What to send your agent
Give them everything needed to file without a follow-up email:
- Booking or reservation number.
- The exact lower fare, with a screenshot showing the ship, sail date, stateroom category and guest count.
- The date and time you found it. Fares move, and the timestamp matters.
- Which program you are claiming under, if you know it. Naming it saves a round trip.
Then ask them to confirm when it has been submitted, because that is the point at which the clock stops being your problem.
If your agent is slow
Some agents monitor client bookings closely and some do not, because it is not part of every agency's service.
You are entitled to ask for a status update and to ask them to file. If an agent will not, the escalation route is the agency rather than the cruise line, because the line will keep pointing you back at the booking holder of record.
Why this is worth setting up in advance
The window on most lines closes at final payment, and an agent-held booking adds a handoff inside that window. The practical answer is to know about a drop as early as possible, so a day or two of email does not consume the whole margin.
You can still add the booking to CruiseSignal. We compare it against the cruise line's public price, not your agent's rate. It gives you the amount, the program and the deadline in a form you can forward, so the message to your agent is one paste rather than an explanation.
