You booked a Norwegian cruise and the same stateroom is now cheaper on ncl.com. Norwegian will not lower your fare on its own. Unlike Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival, it also does not publish a price drop program on its US site, so what you can get depends on where you booked, what you booked and what NCL decides.
That makes Norwegian the line where it pays most to ask early and ask precisely. This guide covers what NCL does publish, what it does not, and how to make the request. The rules as we have verified them are on the Norwegian price protection page.
What NCL publishes, and where
NCL's US terms and conditions describe when the fare can go up, not what happens when it comes down. They say nothing about a refund or adjustment when a fare falls after you book. We could not find a current Best Price Guarantee page on NCL's US site.
NCL's Australia site does publish Best Price Guarantee terms. They are a useful guide to how NCL thinks about price drops, but they are written for that region, so treat them as an indication rather than a promise for a US or Canadian booking. Under those terms:
- Only sailings of 6 days or longer are eligible.
- Before final payment, a reservation may see a reduction in voyage fare.
- After final payment, if the reservation is fully paid and more than 14 days before sailing, you may choose between a complimentary upgrade equivalent to the price difference, subject to availability, or a Future Cruise Credit, as long as all the original promotions on the booking are still available.
- All promotions on your booking must match those on the new fare. A change that is only a different promotion, or the removal of onboard credit, does not count as a price drop.
- NCL says it tells guests whether they are eligible within 7 business days.
If you booked in the US or Canada, ask NCL or your travel agent which program applies to your booking before you assume any of this.
Repricing can change your perks
NCL's Canada FAQ says guests who reprice their reservation become subject to the amenities and terms of the current perks program. If your fare came with a promotion attached, a lower fare can arrive with a different package than the one you booked. Before you accept a repriced fare, compare what is included, not only the total.
Final payment is still the date to watch
Every published route NCL offers is at its best before final payment, when a lower fare can still reduce what you owe. After it, the best case in the terms above is an upgrade or a future cruise credit rather than money back. Your final payment date is on your booking confirmation; our guide to the cruise final payment date explains why it matters across every line.
How to ask, step by step
- Gather your booking details. Reservation number, ship, sail date, stateroom category, number of guests and the promotion attached to your fare.
- Price the same booking on ncl.com. Match ship, date, category and guests, and note the promotion that comes with the new fare. Screenshot it.
- Compare like with like. If the lower fare comes with a different promotion or fewer perks, work out whether the new total is lower once you account for what you would lose.
- Contact NCL or your travel agent. Give the reservation number, the fare you found and where you found it, and ask which price drop program applies to your booking. If an agent holds the booking, the request goes through them; see our travel agent price drop guide.
- Get the outcome in writing. Whether it is a reduced fare, an upgrade or a future cruise credit, check the updated invoice before you consider it settled.
Whether NCL grants anything, and in what form, is its decision.
Why timing matters more on Norwegian
Norwegian fares move often after booking. How often and by how much is on the Norwegian price data page, measured on the fares we track. Because NCL's remedies are strongest before final payment and depend on the promotions still being available, a drop spotted late is worth much less than the same drop spotted early.
Norwegian price drop alerts from CruiseSignal, an iPhone and web app for US and Canada residents, watch your exact sailing and category and tell you the amount and your final payment deadline when the fare falls, so you can ask NCL while it can still reduce what you owe. CruiseSignal is independent and not affiliated with Norwegian Cruise Line.
