Letting Your Travel Agent Watch the Price

Some agents monitor fares for their clients and some do not. How to find out which yours is, and what to do about it either way.

If a travel agent holds your booking, they are the only party who can file a price protection claim on it. The cruise line will not take the request from you. So the question of whether anyone is watching your fare is largely a question about your agent.

The range is wide

Some cruise-specialist agencies monitor client bookings systematically and file claims without being asked. That is a real service and it is worth paying for, or rather worth the commission they already earn.

Others book the cruise and do not monitor it afterwards. That is common and not a failing: it is not part of every agency's service.

Most sit in between and will file a claim promptly when you send them one, but are not proactively watching.

When your agent is the better choice

A good cruise-specialist agent is genuinely hard to beat. They hold group space at rates you cannot see, they know which fare codes qualify before you ask, they file the claim themselves, and they can escalate inside the cruise line in ways a customer cannot. If yours does this well, you do not need anything else.

How to find out which you have

Ask directly, before you need to know:

  • Do you monitor fares on my booking after it is made?
  • If the price drops, will you file the claim without me asking?
  • Which program would apply to my fare type?

A specialist will answer all three quickly. Hesitation on the third is the useful signal, because it is the one that requires knowing your booking rather than a policy in general.

What to do if the answer is no

You watch, they file. That division works fine and it is what most people end up doing. Send them the booking number, a screenshot of the lower fare showing ship, date, category and guest count, and the time you found it.

CruiseSignal is built for exactly that handoff: it gives you the amount, the applicable program and the deadline in a form you can forward, so the message to your agent is one paste rather than an explanation. It does not replace the agent, and it cannot file anything itself.
