If you booked a cruise in the UK and read that the fare can be claimed back until final payment, check where that advice came from. Most of it, including ours, describes programs written for bookings made in the US and Canada. The UK versions of the same programs are much narrower.
Who this site and the app are for
CruiseSignal covers travellers in the US and Canada. The price protection programs described on our price protection pages are the ones cruise lines publish for those markets, and the app is built around them. We do not track UK bookings, and nothing on this site should be read as describing what a UK booking can claim.
Royal Caribbean says as much on its own US page: its Best Price Guarantee "is not available in all countries, or for all reservations", and it asks guests to confirm eligibility with their local cruise representative or travel partner.
What Royal Caribbean's UK site says
On its UK frequently asked questions, Royal Caribbean describes a Best Price Guarantee that lets you take advantage of a better price within 48 hours from the time you booked, by calling. The difference is given as non-refundable onboard credit.
That is a different program from the US one, where a lower fare can be claimed until final payment and repriced, with an upgrade route after final payment. A UK booking should be judged against the UK wording, not the US one.
What Celebrity's UK site says
Celebrity's UK Best Price Guarantee terms are also short-window. According to its UK page:
- It applies only to new direct bookings, and the lower price must be bookable in the UK and Ireland.
- The Best Price is only valid within 2 days of completing the original direct booking.
- The booking has to be identical, including ship, sail date, duration, stateroom category, airport, currency and any amenities attached.
- The price is matched as a saving worth at most 10% of the cruise fare, decided by Celebrity.
- Group rates, membership programs, military or blue light discounts, charters and travel agent promotions are excluded.
- Requests are made by phone on 0344 493 2043.
The US program, by contrast, runs until final payment and then offers a cabin upgrade. The two should not be confused.
Carnival and Norwegian
We have not verified what Carnival or Norwegian offer on UK bookings, so we will not describe it. If you booked either in the UK, read the booking conditions that came with your confirmation, or ask the line or your travel agent directly what happens if the fare for your sailing falls.
What you can do as a UK booker
The honest position is that a UK booking has far less room to claim a later price drop than a US one, and whatever room exists is set by the line's UK terms.
- Find your line's UK terms. Start with the booking conditions for your market and the line's UK help pages, not a US article.
- Note the window. On the two programs above, the window is counted from the day you booked and lasts 2 days or less. If you are inside it, check the fare for your exact sailing, cabin category and fare type now.
- Ask before you assume. If you booked through a travel agent, they can check the current fare against yours and tell you whether any agency or line program applies. See the travel agent guide.
- Keep your own record. If you want to watch prices after the window closes, a simple manual check works. Our comparison of checking cruise prices yourself sets out what that involves.
Whatever you find, the decision on any claim is the cruise line's, under the terms that apply to your booking.
